Why is it Important to Set Your Fridge Temperature Accurately?

In the summer months, it is always a good practice to turn down the fridge temperature a bit for compensating for warmer air to come in and vice versa in the colder months. But, this goes beyond setting the accurate temperature in your fridge. The correct setting for a commercial fridge

Recommended temperature is always below 5 degrees C, as this temperature will slow down the bacterial growth and helps in maintaining the food quality as well. A lower temperature means the fridge will freeze, where the food may spoil. If the temperature is more than 5 degrees C, then it is a danger because, at this temperature, the bacteria may spread and may cause E Coli, listeria, or salmonella.

Maintaining an accurate temperature is necessary for storing the food products safely, and for eliminating waste as well. The best setting is at 3 degrees C. But, this may vary based on the food types, and the products stored in the fridge. Many areas are colder than others, so you may want to learn where to put the contents:

  1. Fridge Door

This is the warmest part of the fridge as it exposes the appliance to the external environment. And the top shelf is the warmest. The products you store can get as high as 15 degrees C.

This is slightly warmer as compared to the below section as heat tends to rise here.

  1. Middle Shelf

This is colder than the top. There is less temperature fluctuation and offers well circulated air.

  1. Bottom Shelf

This is the coldest part of the fridge and usually has its own drawer.

The low fridge temperature slows down the bacterial and moldgrowth. They aren’t destroyed. Instead, they just slow down till it warms back up again. If there is some rotten food inside already, this will not cure the food magically. And not every bacteria stop growing below 4 degrees C.
